At Magenta Security, we’re used to being the tip of the spear. We were the first security company in Europe to receive ISO 14001 certification, this year we officially became Carbon Neutral+ and Managing Director Abbey Petkar has been a fierce advocate for reform in the security industry throughout his career.
The problem with being ahead of the pack is that it can feel a little lonely, so it’s always reaffirming to receive recognition from local or industry peers. Towards the end of 2021, we won two awards in quick succession, just days apart on November 23rd and November 25th.
It was wonderful to end a challenging year on such a positive note, particularly as we were finally able to attend the celebrations in-person and have an excuse to dress our best.
Since 2012, the Security & Fire Excellence Awards have highlighted the best people, projects and processes in the security and fire sectors. 2021 marked the first time Magenta Security had been shortlisted for an award, in the company of multinational organisations and local governments.
Despite tough competition, Magenta Security walked away from the black tie dinner at Hilton on Park Lane with the Corporate Social Responsibility Initiative of the Year award in recognition of our Carbon Neutral+ certification.
The West London Local Chambers Business Awards celebrate the successes of businesses in Hounslow, Ealing and Hammersmith and Fulham. Magenta Security won big in the 2020 awards, accepting the award for Best Green Business in front of 100 attendees on Zoom.
2021’s awards were presented at a black tie, gala dinner at Chiswick’s Clayton Hotel, providing a welcome chance for in-person celebrations after the prior year’s virtual event. It was a wonderful way to start the festive season and Magenta Security received an early gift with the Best Green Business award, securing our second consecutive win in the category.
“Successful businesses … are those that remain profitable whilst giving back” – Abbey Petkar
Speaking after Magenta Security’s double award win, Abbey Petkar was moved by the recognition but quick to urge other companies to step it up.
“COP26 might be over, but every forward-thinking business owner doesn’t need to digest the conference notes to know how critical it is that we reduce carbon production now and continue to seek new and creative ways to reduce our environmental impact whilst supporting local communities and staff,” Abbey said.
“Magenta has been focused on corporate social responsibility since the day we first started trading over 26 years ago – successful businesses are not those that make a lot of money but those that remain profitable whilst giving back and having a conscience.
“Every last detail of a company’s operations should be fundamentally based on an environmentally responsible strategy, from top to bottom, with processes for productivity and profitability being designed with serious consideration given to environmental consequences.”
Abbey had much more to say on 2021 beyond the double awards win. Read his thoughts on COVID, climate and compassion in our 2021 in review interview.
