There is less than six months to go before one of the greatest shows comes to the UK, the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympic Games. The big questions is, are we ready?
I’ve raised the issue of security at the Olympics in previous blogs. But it’s an important topic because the Olympics is one of the biggest security tests the UK has ever been faced with. Thousands of athletes and millions of visitors will descend on London, and other venues around the country. Security has been one of the major considerations for organisers as keeping athletes and spectators safe is a top priority.
LOCOG appointed a private security firm to recruit, train and manage the large security work force required to ensure the Games stayed safe. The cost of security at the Olympics may have doubled – from £282 million to £553 million largely due to staffing costs – but it is a necessary step to ensure each venue has the highest levels of security.
Partnerships will be central to the successful delivery of the security plan. The organisers, Government and a host of policing, safety and security agencies have already shown they are working together with the aim of achieving a safe and secure event, and we look forward to playing our own part.
Working in partnership is vital to the success of any security project, no matter how big or small. They are mutually beneficial because they allow different groups to exchange ideas and share expertise. Our years of experience have taught us that partnerships are also effective in helping expand business by winning clients based on local reputation and global experience. At Magenta Security we pride ourselves on working in partnership with all our clients. It’s an approach which allows us to learn their individual requirements so we can provide a tailor made security package which suits their needs.
I believe we’ll all learn from the security partnerships developed through the Olympic Games. The experience and knowledge gained will undoubtedly filter down through the whole industry so security providers can adopt similar partnership practices into their own business strategies.
